Former Philadelphia Union Academy defender/midfielder Shane Campbell will continue his professional career in Pittsburgh next season.

Campbell, who spent his rookie year with the Harrisburg City Islanders, signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds pending USL and USSF approval, according to a news release.

He’ll join former City Islanders teammate Keasel Broome with the club in 2017.

Campbell made eight appearances for the City Islanders in his rookie season after finishing the final two seasons of his college career at Louisville. He spent his first two years of college at Penn State.

Prior to that, the York, Pa. native was a captain for FC Delco and part of the Philadelphia Union Academy in its “club and country” days. He made two appearances for the Union in MLS Reserve matches in 2011.

Former Union Academy teammates Zack Steffen (on loan from Columbus Crew SC) and Melvin Snoh both spent time with the Riverhounds last season.
