Eight players with local ties named DIII All-Americans

Eight players with ties to the region have been named DIII All-Americans by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Rowan University landed two players on the list with sophomore forward Shane Doherty (Delran, N.J.) making the first team and sophomore defender Will Sjaastad appearing on the second team. Doherty had 14 goals and 3 assists to lead the Profs in scoring while Sjaastad chipped in five goals and two assists.

Elizabethtown College sophomore forward Gilbert Waso (Elizabethtown, Pa.) and Messiah College senior midfielder Jacob Bender were both first-team repeats. Waso led the Blue Jays in scoring with 15 goals and six assists while Bender led the Falcons in scoring with 13 goals and eight assists.

Gordon College senior midfielder Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) was a third-time selection and Connecticut College senior midfielder Patrick Devlin was a second-time selection. Cole was third in the nation in assists with 16 and added nine goals. Devlin led the Camels in scoring with 13 goals and three assists.

Franklin & Marshall College landed two players on the third team in sophomore defender Wyatt Fabian (Sinking Spring, Pa.) and sophomore forward Ugochukwe Okolie. Okolie had three goals and nine assists on the year while Fabian chipped in a goal and four assists from the back.

A total of 33 players with ties to the region were named to All-Region lists, which were also announced by the NSCAA on Thursday.

Two – Elizabethtown College defender Samuel Feehrer and Lebanon Valley midfielder Cam Alexander – spent time in the Philadelphia Union Academy in its pre-U.S. Soccer Development Academy days.
