Keegan Rosenberry makes young fan’s 2017

The Pottsgrove youth had a pretty good time early Friday

In case you missed it, Ethan Chambers had a pretty good Christmas. The tweet shared by his dad (posted it below, definitely required viewing) showing off a feeling that we can probably relate to on some level was noticed by local news outlets, FOX Soccer, MLS, the Philadelphia Union, and most notably Keegan Rosenberry himself.

What happened next probably made Ethan’s whole year. He got to meet Keegan at the Union’s stunning new Power Training Complex and not only got his own personalized jersey hand delivered by someone he admires, but he got to see the inner workings of his favorite soccer club. On top of that, he even got to play the MLS All-Star right back in an impromptu game of pool. The whole hour and a half was surely special for Ethan, his family and everyone involved – and I’ll admit that I feel really spoiled to have been able to be a fly on the wall for the experience.

That being said, it would have been dumb if I didn’t talk to the future US Men’s National Team player and the guy currently on the 32 man roster right? Right.

Rosenberry:

When you saw the Twitter video on Christmas what was going through your head?
“Think I was just as excited as Ethan was. That’s what makes our job so special is people like that, that loves the team that much, that’s what makes the home games so special. It’s anyone that is that passionate about it, but especially kids.

Did you have any formative moments in sports fandom like this?
“A little bit, yeah. I used to come to a couple games here when the team first started, I was a little bit older because it was so recently but yeah. To see both sides is really unique and that’s why this is so special to me, being able to interact with fans and form bonds. So I would say the first couple of games meant a lot to me and the experience I had here as well.

Is your social media involvement something you look to do just to help engage the fanbase?
“I think that’s half the battle is trying to keep the fans happy with your play and there’s a lot of interaction on social media these days and I try to do my best to take the good and bad and try to highlight certain things. I’m not a professional but I think I do alright.”

Chambers:

Favorite part of it?
“Pool. It’s not every day you get to play pool with a famous soccer player.”

Why soccer?
“I tried the other sports and they didn’t work for me. Soccer I do one thing and I’m good at it.”

Going to a game last year? Favorite part of stadium?
“It was cool. Just going to the game and getting to sit where you can see the ocean (writer’s note: it’s adorable so I’m not going to correct it) and you get to sit with all your friends, because it was a fundraiser for my soccer team.”

Family of sports fans? (Asked to the parents)
“Huge sports fans. There was no soccer when we grew up so I didn’t really understand it, but that’s the only team Ethan will ask about. He’ll go ‘Can we watch the Union?’ So yeah, he’s absolutely hooked.”

There you have it folks. Did it make your day? Let us know in the comments.
