Bolu Akinyode joins North Carolina FC

One of Bethlehem Steel FC’s mainstays joins the NASL club

Bethlehem Steel FC have announced that they have sent Bolu Akinyode to North Carolina FC of the NASL. Due to league and club policies on both ends, the terms of the deal have been withheld from the transaction. Bolu was a big part of Steel FC, playing in 26 of the Philadelphia Union affiliate’s matches with 24 starts split between central defense and central midfield. The former New York Red Bulls academy player was a standout in a Steel FC midfield that also featured James Chambers and Derrick Jones. The club formerly known as the Carolina RailHawks will pick up a work horse in Akinyode, who notched 2,100 minutes and displayed a good amount of strength and two way skill on the ball, with an offensive output of 13 shots.

Bolu was someone who didn’t make quite the impact that Jones or Chambers had on the Union affiliate in their inaugural season last year. That being said he was a very solid option at multiple positions, and it’ll be interesting to see who Steel find to replace Akinyode’s mix of strength and finesse.

As always we wish Bolu the best with NCFC and thank him for his contributions to Bethlehem Steel FC in their first season.
