Harrisburg City Islanders Academy rejoining Super Y League for 2017 season
Youth teams will play 10-game summer schedule
The Harrisburg City Islanders will once again have boys and girls youth teams competing in the summer Super Y League in 2017.
The City Islanders will join cross-state USL rivals Pittsburgh Riverhounds in the league. They plan to play home matches at Central Dauphin East High School in Harrisburg. The club previously had teams in the youth league from 2004-2009.
“We continue to develop a pipeline from the youth all the way up to our professional team, and the Super Y League will help us get there,” City Islanders Youth Academy Director Dave Kern said in a news release.
The City Islanders Academy teams – U13, U14, U16 and U18 for boys; U13 and U14 for girls – will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Region against teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Washington D.C.
The 10-game season will be played from mid-June through mid-August. Top teams compete in national finals in December.
Founded in 1999, the Super Y League is a part of the United Soccer Leagues, which also operates the USL and the Premier Development League.
“The Super Y League operates within the United Soccer League family, and our players will greatly benefit from the opportunities that arise as our professional clubs continue to influence the youth landscape,” Super Y League Marketing Manager Matt Reda said in a news release.
