Reading United Athletic Club kicks off its 22nd season in the Premier Development League at home on May 13 against local rivals Lehigh Valley United.

The Philadelphia Union’s PDL affiliate will play a 14-match schedule, which was released on Friday by the league. All seven of Reading’s home game will be played on the turf at Exeter Township High School’s Don Thomas Stadium.

Second-year head coach Stephen Hogan, who is also on Brendan Burke’s staff with Bethlehem Steel FC, will look to build on a successful first season. Hogan led Reading to a Mid-Atlantic Division championship and all the way to the Eastern Conference finals, where they lost to division rivals Ocean City Nor’easters.

Reading will play Ocean City three times, including twice at home on June 2 and June 23. They also play Lehigh Valley three times with road matches on July 5 and the last game of the regular season on July 15.

Their other eight games will be home and away matches against New York Red Bulls U23, FA Euro New York, Jersey Express and Evergreen FC.

The PDL will have 72 teams in 2017, competing in four conferences and 10 divisions.

A top amateur league, the PDL provides elite college soccer players an opportunity to play at a high level of competition over the summer and continue their developmental path toward a professional career.

Seventy-three percent (59) of the players drafted in the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft spent time in the PDL.
