Josh Yaro undergoes shoulder surgery

The Philadelphia Union announced that center back Josh Yaro had “underwent successful shoulder surgery this week” and that he is expected to miss between three and four months. The press release did not disclose what procedure was done or what shoulder it was done on.

Yaro’s rookie season was marred by injuries. He missed three weeks last June after tearing the labrum in his right shoulder during the Orlando City match, and missed the final two matches after a vicious collision during the match against the New York Red Bulls where he sustained a concussion.

From the Union’s press release: “Josh came into preseason very fit and sharp. This setback is tough, but the right thing to do was to be proactive and surgery to repair the shoulder is what’s best for Josh long term,” Philadelphia Union Head Coach Jim Curtin said. “We know he will come back stronger than ever. We have a very deep roster that we believe in, and we know the next man will step up in Josh’s absence.”

The speedy Ghanian center back played in just 17 games last season, and was expected to challenge Ken Tribbett and Oguchi Onyewu for the a starting job next to Richie Marquez on the Union’s back line.
