Three current Union players on Reading United all-time Best XI
C.J. Sapong, Keegan Rosenberry and Ray Gaddis voted to Best XI
Three current Philadelphia Union players were among those chosen by fans for Reading United’s all-time Best XI.
C.J. Sapong, Keegan Rosenberry and Ray Gaddis join former Union players Leo Fernandes and Andrew Wenger on the list of players who have suited up for the club’s Premier Development League affiliate.
Downingtown native Jeremy Vuolo and Reading native Corey Hertzog join Rosenberry (Ronks, Pa.) and Wenger (Lititz, Pa.) as locals on the list while Damion Lowe, Matt Hedges and Stephen Okai round out the list.
Out of the 11 players, one is retired, six are on MLS rosters and four play in the USL. Hertzog and Okai are teammates with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Lowe and Fernandes are recent additions to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Seven players were also named to the bench for a game day 18, including current Union goalkeeper John McCarthy (Cinnaminson, N.J.), former Union forward Aaron Wheeler, Alex Bono, Greg Cochrane (Holland, Pa.), Fatai Alashe, Deshorn Brown and Jason Yeisley (Hershey, Pa.).
"Reading United has been fortunate to attract top young players from around the globe, especially those that represent their country in international competition,” Reading United Vice President Troy Snyder said in a news release. “Our talent pool is deep, which makes it hard to name only eleven players to our fans’ All-Star Team.”
The process started with club management and former coaches nominating 28 former players who went on to the professional ranks and was narrowed down by fan voting online.
Reading will kick off its 22nd season in the PDL on May 13 at home against Lehigh Valley United.
