Philadelphia Union announce new fan experience at Talen Energy Stadium
It’s going to be a lot different this year.
The Philadelphia Union announced yesterday that there would be some major changes to the game-day experience for fans, ranging from new forms of entertainment to new food and drink at the concession stands. For this opening weekend, there will be additional banners in the match walk out, and the game ball will be delivered from a skydiver who will parachute into the stadium to give the officials the ball. I am VERY interested in seeing this, as to my knowledge it has not been done in MLS before. Continuing on the parachute theme, the Union will be doing parachute drops for free memorabilia and gifts for fans. According to the team, they will be the first team to do this with an open roof stadium. Along with all these changes, the Union have hired the Mad Beatz Philly drum line for pregame shows in the Toyota Plaza. It was also revealed that the Sons of Ben will be receiving more capos for the upcoming season to help improve the stadium atmosphere.
Another key addition will be the fan murals around the stadium. We’ve had a few glimpses of them, and I am personally really excited to see how they turn out.
Along with the murals, there has been a new parking lot introduced, an improved VIP entrance, and more flags sporting the Union’s blue and gold installed in the upper decks to add the Union’s signature colors around Talen Energy Stadium. There are going to be new food opportunities at games as well. The Union announced that there will now be a food truck plaza, as well as food from the food trucks sold inside of the stadium during the game. Another big announcement on the food and drink department is that alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase at every concessions stand.
