Philadelphia Union midfielder Eric Ayuk is going to Sweden. The 20 year old winger has been loaned to Jönköpings Södra IF of the Allsvenskan – Sweden’s first division. The news was officially announced today by a press release.

While he Swedish transfer window closed a few days ago, the move was reportedly delayed due to paperwork.

Ayuk has shown immense promise for the Union, however right wing is a position that the club is very deep at, with Ilsinho, Fabian Herbers, Marcus Epps, and possibly even Alejandro Bedoya being higher on the Union’s depth charts. Ayuk spent most of 2016 with Bethlehem Steel FC, however the club thought it prudent to get him some international experience as well as playing time.

Ayuk made a splash with the Union when he signed in 2015 and wound up making 28 appearances for the Union, scoring two goals and getting two assists in the process. He only made one appearance last season, however he has been a fixture with the Cameroon U20 squad, where he won Man of the Match in a U20 AFCON match against Sudan last month.
