Villanova to host Georgetown at Talen Energy Stadium on October 13
Big East teams renew rivalry at site of 2017 College Cup
While playing at Talen Energy Stadium will be the goal of every college soccer program going into the fall, Villanova will get a chance in October to host one of their conference rivals in Chester two months before the College Cup.
Villanova will host Big East foe Georgetown at the home of the Philadelphia Union on Friday, October 13, at 7:30 p.m.
Georgetown has owned the fixture historically with a 22-6-4 record over the Wildcats and even in a year last year with the programs going in opposite directions – Villanova made the NCAA Tournament for the first time, Georgetown posted a 6-9-2 record – the Hoyas still won 3-2.
Villanova head coach Tom Carlin has never beaten Georgetown, and after a scoreless draw his first season in 2008 his teams have lost seven straight – including 2-1 losses at home in 2015 and 2014 to squads that featured current Union defenders Josh Yaro and Keegan Rosenberry.
Carlin has an experienced team returning led by fifth-year seniors Will Steiner, Max Kroschwitz, and Eric McKenna, an upperclass midfield trio of Miguel Polley, Zach Zandi, and Andreas Bartosinski, and second-year defenders Shane Bradley, Nikkye DePoint, and Sean Teixeira.
Nova has not released their fall schedule yet, but has two tough non-conference match-ups early in the season at Syracuse (exhibition) on August 16 and Virginia on August 25. They’ll also be hosting Big East rival Providence on October 28.
