Real Madrid And Philadelphia Union Friendly Done, Per Philly.com

Published

on

According to Kerith Gabriel of Philly.com, and the Daily News, the friendly between the Philadelphia Union and Real Madrid has been finalized.

The Union will play Madrid on July 23 at Lincoln Financial Field, three days after the Union play English Premier League side Everton in a friendly at PPL Park. An away game against the Seattle Sounders had to be rescheduled to make the friendly happen, as the Union were due to play at QWEST Field on the 23rd. That game will now be played on October 8 in Seattle. Another hitch that was holding up finalizing the friendly was that a Division II college game was scheduled for October 8, but that game was postponed in order to allow for the rescheduling of the Sounders-Union game.

Season ticket holders will have access to a pre-sale for the game.

Here’s a quote from Union CEO, Managing Partner and President Nick Sakiewicz, said to Philly.com, about the quality of the Madrid squad that will show up at the Linc:

Union fans can expect Real’s top players to make the trip, as Sakiewicz noted that many of the stars are “contractually obligated” to appear. Real’s South American players will be in the midst of the Copa America tournament, but Sakiewicz said Brazilian star Kaka, [Portuguese defender] Pepe and Argentine forward Angel di Maria will be in the house.
