RUMOR: Everton To Play The Union In Mid-Season Friendly?
The Philadelphia Union have yet to announce or even hint to what international friendlies the team will have during this MLS season, but a rumor has already emerged about one.
A rumor traveling amongst Everton fans is that the Philadelphia Union are one of the Toffees’ preseason tour opponents. July 20 is the date of the rumored friendly between the two sides. Last season the Union faced Scottish team Celtic, English powerhouse Manchester United and Mexican giants Chivas de Guadalajara in international friendlies.
Everton are already set to play DC United on July 23, as the English Premier League club makes their first appearance in the United States since 2009. River Plate and MLS All-Stars were the team’s opponents on that trip. Though Everton announced on March 22 that it would make an United States tour as part of their 2011-2012 preseason, the only released game date was the DC United fixture.
Currently sitting in seventh place in the EPL with 47 points in 33 games, Everton are set to play in the Europa League next year. (due to a year of wacky results in Cups, Everton and any other team will need to finish in the top five to play in any European level competition).
