Havertown Native Sinead Farrelly Re-Signs With The Independence
Earlier tonight, the Philadelphia Independence announced that Havertown native Sinead Farrell had re-signed with the team. Farrelly, a midfielder, was the first round draft pick for Philadelphia in 2011, scoring one goal with two assists in her rookie season. In 2011, Farrelly started in 13 of the 14 games she played, bringing her strong presence to the Independence midfield.
Like her teammate, Meghan Lenczyk, Sinead Farrelly played at the college level for the University of Virginia, scoring 10 goals along with seven assists during the 2010 collegiate season. Her form would lead to Farrelly being named the 2010 ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Playing for a total of four years, Farrelly finished her college career play with 28 goals, 22 assists and 78 total career points.
The 2012 WPS season will be Farelly's second in Women's Professional Soccer and is also a constant presence on the U-23 Women's National Team.
