River Cup: Second Annual Charity Game Tonight at 6 P.M.

on

Tonight, at PPL Park in Chester, PA at 6 P.M., the Philadelphia Union's staff will host a 'visiting' squad made up of members of the Sons of Ben, the team's supporters group.

Last year the Sons of Ben fell 2-1 to the Union staff team after current interim head coach John Hackworth, who was the assistant coach under Peter Nowak in 2011. They chose to change up their squad recruitment process this time around, deciding to pre-select a portion of the team (taken from Sons of Ben Casa teams), while also holding tryouts to round out the rest of their side.

The Union will feature players such as Mike Quarino, Vice President of Ticket Sales and Fan Services, at goalkeeper, and Hackworth. Quarino held the Sons of Ben to a single goal despite multiple scoring opportunities.

The Sons of Ben will be led by Vice President Corey Furlan, who scored in last year's match.

Furlan and Nick Sakiewicz, CEO and Managing Partner, had their second ever dual press conference and once again trash talked the entire time.

From Dave Zeitlin's piece for MLSsoccer.com:

This year's edition will be extended to a full 90 minutes, up from 60 minutes in the first ever game.

Some notes from the Sons of Ben:
