Reports out of Colombia say that ex-Philadelphia Union goalkeeper Faryd Mondragon was hospitalized in the Valle de Lili hospital in Cali. His condition isn’t immediately known at this time, and it’s also not officially known why he was admitted. One source has said that it was due to medication he was taking, but that has not been confirmed by either the hospital or his family. Valle de Lili is expected to release a statement at some point today

Mondragon had posted a message to his Instagram account prior to the incident that read "Only I can judge my existence, and I am tired of others judging me without an opportunity for defense." That message has since been deleted.

Mondragon played with teams in Colombia and Argentina before moving to Real Zaragoza in 1999. He spent time with Metz in France’s Ligue 1, Galatasaray in Turkey’s Super Lig, and 1. FC Köln in Germany’s Bundesliga before coming to the Union in 2011. Mondragon lead the Union to their only playoff berth in club history, but he returned to his native Colombia the following year to finish his career with Deportivo Cali. He also became the oldest player in World Cup history, making his final appearance against Japan in 2014.

On behalf of everyone on staff at Brotherly Game, we wish Faryd a speedy recovery.
