Union Academy in PDL: Brett Campbell brace leads Reading to victory

The Georgetown rising junior led Reading United to its second straight win on Saturday.

Georgetown forward Brett Campbell scored in the 72nd and 78th minutes to lead Reading United AC to a 2-0 win over the Ocean City Nor'easters in PDL action on Saturday.

Louisville defender Shane Campbell set up Campbell's winner and Paul Marie assisted on his second goal. Shane Campbell and Georgetown defender Keegan Rosenberry played the full 90 minutes of the game.

Brett Campbell subbed into the game in the second half. James Madison goalkeeper Kyle Morton made two saves to preserve the clean sheet. Quincy Thomas, who typically plays defense at Memphis, played 84 minutes in the midfield.

The win put Union's PDL affiliate two points behind New York Red Bulls U23 with a game in hand in the Mid-Atlantic Division standings with a 2-0-1 record.

Old Dominion defender Nick Hutchinson, Lehigh's Doyle Tuvesson, and LIU goalkeeper Logan Keys all played 90 minutes in Lehigh Valley United Sonic's 3-1 loss to Baltimore Bohemians on Saturday. George Mason midfielder Colton Amidon came off the bench and played 11 minutes. Xavier defender Todd Pratzner was in the 18 for Baltimore but did not play.

Pittsburgh Riverhounds U-23 opened their season last Wednesday with a 4-0 loss and dropped their second game over the weekend 2-0 to Southern West Virginia King's Warriors. Michigan State defender Andrew Herr played 90 minutes in the opener and 68 minutes on Saturday.

Reading United's Super-20 team, which features Brett Glasco (West Chester), Noah Snyder (Duke), Joe Harding (Fairfield) and Eric Gutierrez (Philadelphia University), were off this week and play Friday and Sunday.
