For the first time since 2011 and only the second time in club history, the Philadelphia Union will travel for their first game in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup when they take on D.C. United in the fourth round on June 12.

The Union last opened the tournament on the road when they played D.C. United in Boyds, Maryland in 2011. They lost on penalties after a 2-2 draw. They’ve been home to open every competition since then, dispatching the Harrisburg City Islanders three times (2014, 2016 and 2017) Rochester Rhinos twice (2012 and 2015), Ocean City Nor’easters once (2013) and the Richmond Kickers to start their journey to a third Open Cup final last June.

D.C. United will be the first MLS opponent the Union will face to open the competition since 2011 when there was an MLS qualifying round. They were one and done in their first season in 2010, losing to New York Red Bulls 2-1 in Harrison in the qualifying round.

The game will kick off at 7 p.m. ET at Audi Field and will be broadcast live on ESPN+ .*
