Both players picked up their second yellow cards of the competition

Yellow card accumulation will keep Jamiro Monteiro and Matt Real out of the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinal in August.

Monteiro and Real both went into the book for the second time in the competition, earning an automatic one-game suspension.

All players with single yellow cards (Jack Elliott, Olivier Mbaizo and Jakob Glesnes) will have them wiped for the semifinal.

Jose Martinez served a one-game suspension for his two yellow cards in the first three games on Tuesday night. He also faces a potential multi-game suspension from league play for his violent conduct in the 2-0 loss to NYCFC over the weekend.

Filling Monteiro’s shoes will be tough for a road match either at Club America or Portland Timbers in the third week of August but there is also time for the Union to reinformce their squad. Real has provided Curtin with an option off the bench, playing as a left-sided midfielder as opposed to his normal left back position.
