Union and Atlanta United head coaches clash after Concacaf Champions League match ends

While the contest between the Philadelphia Union and Atlanta United ended with a 4-1 Union win on aggregate when the full time whistle blew at Subaru Park on Tuesday night, the confrontation between the two head coaches continued.

When asked about the heated exchange in the post-game press conference,, Union head coach, Jim Curtin said Atlanta United head coach Gabriel Heinze was upset about what he saw as Union players diving and faking injuries dating back to the first leg in Atlanta last week.

Curtin said Heinze refused to shake his hand.

“He’s an incredible coach, he’s an incredible player, but you can still be also a sore loser and be an asshole at the end of the game,” Curtin said. “I still think there’s a right way. I think he should shake hands like a man after the game.”

Philadelphia Union captain Alejandro Bedoya was a little more light-hearted about it.

The Philadelphia Union conceded their first goal of the competition in first half stoppage time but a second half goal gave them a 4-1 win on aggregate and a spot in the semifinals that begin the third week of August.
