Ocean City Nor’easters will face West Chester United for fourth time in Eastern Conference semifinal

Familiar foes will face off Sunday in the USL League Two Eastern Conference semifinal in Leesburg, Va.

After splitting a three-game series at 1-1-1 during the regular season, West Chester United and Ocean City Nor’easters will get a rubber match in the postseason after they both opened the playoffs with wins in a double header Saturday at Evergreen Sportsplex.

West Chester United beat the New York Red Bulls U23 in the first game of the double header Saturday. All three goals in the match were scored in the first half. Yusuf Cueceoglu struck in the 17th minute with a pretty shot from the 18 off a pass from Conor Bradley and after a conceding an equalizer answered back with a Troy Amspacher goal off a Spencer Burkhardt corner that held up as the winner.

Ocean City Nor’easters got a late penalty from Simon Becher after a handball was whistled in the box to top Boston Bolts 1-0 in the second match, which included a weather delay.

West Chester United (11-1-2) and Ocean City Nor’easters (9-2-3) finished one and two in the Mid Atlantic Division standings during the regular season. Ocean City won the first match at home 2-1, the teams played to a scoreless draw at West Chester and the Predators won 2-1 in the regular season finale at Carey Stadium on July 9.

Sunday’s Eastern Conference semifinal will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Evergreen Sportsplex and a stream will be available on Eleven Sports. The winner will play Western Mass Pioneers for the Eastern Conference final.
