Game Thread: Union 3 vs Crew 0, Final

Union look to stay above the playoff line as the crew looks to go on a late season run

90+5’ – Corner for the crew is sent in and the cleared out. Final whistle Union scrap out the win and are now in third place.

90+4’ – Monteiro draws a foul after he was taken down near centerfield. Union get the game back underway and send it deep into Crew’s side of the field.

90+1’ – Crew get a ball into the back of the net. However Zardes was in an offsides position. Shutout is still alive.

90’ – Harriel and Bueno come on for the Union. The two replace Powell and Bedoya. We will also have at least 5 minutes of stoppage time.

89’ – Sullivan passes it to himself, from the right side crosses it to an unmarked and a wide open Flach who hits it onto the net. The ball goes off the hands and into the back of the net.

87’ – Crew earn a corner here and it falls to Monteiro, who just sends it up the field.

84’ – Sullivan picks the ball up and goes all the way down the right side and holds up play waiting for support. Passes it over to Flach whose shot goes out of play.

80’ – Tough few minutes for Blake who has made incredible back to back saves here to keep the clean sheet for the Union.

78’ – Santos is getting subbed out with Findlay coming on. Santos gets a yellow on his way out as he was trying not to get subbed out during a free kick.

76’ – Blake with another penalty stop. The man is once again showing why he is the reigning and should be back to back goalkeeper of the year.

74’ – Zardes goes down inside the box after Powell and him collide. The ref points straight at the spot and he is getting surrounded by the Union players who are not happy with the call at all.

72’ – Glesnes with a great stop at the top of the box to prevent the crew from being able to get a shot off.

69’ – Union make their first sub bringing in Sullivan for Gazdag.

64’ – Wagner gets ran into and Columbus’ player goes down. Ref brandishes a yellow card, which is his second of the match earning him a Red. Union now playing down a man for 25 minutes.

63’ – Quality service from U’s Santos from the left into the center of the box. Przybylko gets a one timer off and Columbus saves the shot.

61’ – Crews ‘ Santos’ strike goes wide right of the net. U still up 2 to nil.

59’ – Glesnes stops a ball as he gets drilled on the side of his body. Play is stopped as the training staff is out to look at him.

56’ – Play gets stopped after Santos goes down grabbing his jaw. Replay shows he got hit in the face on his way down.

53’ – Crew makes a double sub in sub spot 1. Brining on Etienne and Diaz.

50’ – Union draw a foul right on the edge of the box and the Union have 6 people inside the 18 yard box. Monteiro lines up and awaits the whistle. The strike goes right into the side of the net.

46’ – Przybylko stands over the ball and the game gets back underway at 5:12pm with an immediate turnover by the U. However Flach picks it back up and heads towards the river. Przybylko stays onside and goes wide. Bedoya slows his runs and gets open and hammers it into the back of the net. Union up 2-0.

45+1’ – Monteiro sends it to the far post. The ball gets cleared and falls to Powell, who sends his shot high over the net. Ref whistled for the half.

45’ – Fourth official indicated we will hace at least 1 minute of stoppage time. Union also earn a corner here.

44’ – Monteiro draws a foul near inside the center circle and the ref has a very long conversation with Zelarayan.

35’ – Wagner gets booked with a yellow after tackling and winning the ball near midfield. Seems like he did touch the columbus player as he followed through the motions.

33’ – Santos picks up a nice ball and is streaking towards the net from the right side. However he commits a foul inside the box as him and two crew members fight over the ball.

30’ – Blake with a good throw on the restart finds an open Bedoya who dribbles up the right side. He gets it into the middle of the field as the Union still have numbers forward but it ends up amounting to nothing.

25’ – Union earn a free kick from a little more than 30 yards out. Elliott is standing over the ball and the low shot gets passed the wall and into the back corner of the net. Union up 1-0 on a dirty set piece from Jack.

21’ – Columbus fouls the Union, who goes with a quick restart. The cross from the left into the center of the box is cleared. Flach tries to head it down but heads it straight into the body of a crew player.

20’ – Monteiro looks to take a shot, however it also goes high above the goal.

18’- The crew’s free kick ends up beyond the river end and on the roof of the dressing rooms.

14’ – Gazdag gets thrown down to the ground about 10 yards past the center circle. Union go for a quick restart. Which ends up going out for a Crew throw-in.

4’ – Powell with some smooth moves and draws a free kick from a good position on the top right side of the box. The roughly 32 yard free kick is put directly on frame by Wagner but it is saved.

3’ – Powell with a run down the right side, he tries to cross it in the box but it is blocked by the crew.

1’ – We have soccer in Chester. Union are defending the river end here in the first half and are wearing the dark blues.
