Andres Perea loaned out to NYCFC for GAM

Philadelphia Union has loaned 22-year-old midfielder Andres Perea to New York City FC for the remainder of the 2023 season. In return, the Union will receive $300,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for the 2024 season.

Perea, who has been capped once by the US men’s national team, just joined Philadelphia in a trade from Orlando City SC this past offseason and signed a long-term contract. However, he has struggled to find time on the field, as he has only played in eight games. With just one start, he has seen 146 league minutes for the Union and has only scored once.

The decision to loan Perea to NYCFC could be seen as a move to give the young player more opportunities to develop his skills and gain valuable experience. On the other hand, the Union’s acquisition of $300,000 in GAM for the 2024 season indicates a forward-thinking approach, providing them with resources that could be used to strengthen the team in the future.

Despite Perea’s departure, the Union’s midfield still boasts significant depth. This move marks Philadelphia’s second outbound intra-league loan of the summer, following the loan of center back Brandan Craig to Austin FC.
