Brian Green’s first season as head coach at Temple has been a challenging one, but the first-year head coach of the Owls already has a signature win under his belt after a thrilling 2-1 win over defending national champions Syracuse on Tuesday night.

Rocco Haeufgloeckner scored in the 89th minute goal secure the upset over No. 10 Syracuse 2-1. The win was the Owls’ first over a ranked team in three seasons.

The win is their second straight after starting out the season with 5 losses and 3 draws.

Lleyton Imparato opened the scoring for the visitors in the 36th minute but the Orange tied things up in the 86th minute. In the end the equalizer was a setup for an even more dramatic winner for the Owls, which beat a ranked opponent for the first time since a 4-1 win over No. 23 Tulsa in April 2021. Temple also beat No. 2 SMU during the 2021 regular season.

The winner was the first of Hauefgloeckner’s collegiate career.
