Glenolden native Joshua Encarnacion named MLS Next Pro referee of the year

Glenolden native Joshua Encarnacion is the recipient of the first ever MLS Next Pro referee of the year award.

The season-ending awards were given for the first time by the league.

Encarnacion joined assistant referee Jackson Krauser and fourth official Braeden Frey in receiving the match official awards, which are determined by data from sports assessment software platform FairWhistle.

After every match, MLS Next Pro coaching staffs evaluate the performances of the match officials through FairWhistle. The Match Officials of the Year were determined by top FairWhistle rankings.
