Cinnaminson, N.J. native Lukas Burns is beginning his professional career in Oregon as a rookie goalkeeper for MLS Next Pro team Portland Timbers 2.

The Philadelphia Union Academy and Providence College graduate was drafted by the Portland Timbers with the 74th overall pick in December. Burns made 73 appearances for the Friars during his five seasons in Rhode Island. He spent summers playing for Real Central NJ in USL League Two and also trained with Philadelphia Union II during school breaks.

He earned Big East All-Tournament honors (2021, 2024) and All-Big East Second Team honors (2023, 2024) during his college career.

Burns is the third player with ties to the Philadelphia Union Academy to play for Timbers 2, joining Dawson McCartney and Selmir Miscic, who were teammates there in 2022-2023.

His signing was announced in early February.
