CB East girls, Great Valley boys qualify for state tournament in 4A playbacks

Central Bucks East girls and Great Valley boys both qualified for the PIAA state soccer tournament with wins in the second round of District 1 Class 4A playbacks on Friday.

CB East beat Spring-Ford 3-0 behind goals from juniors Taylor Roumy, Kiera Sleicher and Mia Forney to book the fifth and final spot from Class 4A in the girls state soccer tournament, which begins on Tuesday. Lower Merion defeated CB South in a penalty shootout on Friday after a 1-1 draw to take the third place spot. Pennridge and Downingtown West play in the district final on Saturday afternoon.

Great Valley boys defeated Downingtown West 11-10 in a penalty shootout after the two teams played to a 1-1 draw to earn the fifth state tournament spot for the boys Class 4A tournament. West Chester Henderson beat Springfield Township 1-0 to earn the third place spot. Haverford plays Abington in the boys 4A final on Saturday afternoon.

In other action on Friday, Faith Christian defeated Archbishop Wood 4-1 to win the District 1 Class 2A championship. Villa Joseph Marie captured the 2A girls title on Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Springfield Township.
