Shawnee is looking for a repeat in their third straight NJSIAA finals appearance while crosstown rival Cherokee is after more hardware in their first state final appearance in program history in Sunday’s girls state finals at Franklin High School in Somerset, N.J.

The Renegades advanced to their third straight title in a row by defeating Northern Burlington 3-0 in the state semifinal. They won the South Jersey Group 3 title on Saturday in a penalty shootout victory over Moorestown.

Nellie Boland’s early goal for Cherokee was enough to give them a 1-0 win over Freehold Township and advance to Sunday’s Group 4 state final, the program’s first.

Shawnee and Cherokee are in the same Lenape Regional High School District in Burlington County. Another school in the district, Seneca, won the South Jersey boys sectional title in Group 2.

Paul VI girls won their second straight Non-Public A championship with a 1-0 win over Immaculate Heart on Sunday. Shawnee and Cherokee are the only other South Jersey teams still standing heading into the finals weekend. Haddon Township, Seneca, Moorestown and Southern all lost state semifinals this week after winning South Jersey sectional finals.
