Through 45 minutes, the Philadelphia Union boast a 2-1 lead over Atlanta United FC. Roland Alberg and Alejandro Bedoya struck twice for the Union early on, but Yamil Asad quickly struck back for Atlanta.

Alberg’s goal came in the 18th minute, when Atlanta made a mess of a Keegan Rosenberry cross. Giliano Wijnaldum took advantage of a weak clearance, playing it back into the box and onto the chest of Roland Alberg. The midfielder timed his run perfectly, giving himself plenty of time to poke the ball past Atlanta ‘keeper Brad Guzan.

Bedoya added to the lead five minutes later, finishing off a corner that was taken by Alberg. Jack Elliott got a head on the initial service, knocking it over to an unmarked Bedoya. With his back to goal, the midfielder connected with the ball and sent it to the far side-netting.

Atlanta countered minutes later, scoring on a corner as well. Josef Martinez connected with the second ball into the box, nodding it into the path of Yamil Asad, who blasted a shot into the roof of the net.

The half was an especially chippy one, with Alejandro Bedoya, Josef Martinez, and CJ Sapong picking up yellow cards. The two teams committed a combined 19 fouls.
