Philadelphia Union Academy teams sweep Empire United on the road
Selmir Miscic had his second hat trick of the season for the U15s; Jeremy Rafanello with another game-winner for the U19s
Selmir Miscic can’t stop scoring.
The 14-year-old attacker from Vermont only needed 41 minutes to record his second hat trick of the season at Empire United in New York on Saturday, bringing his total haul to 11 through five games with the U15 team, which won 5-0. Dante Huckaby also scored in the match and Chay Kaplan recorded his first clean sheet of the season in goal.
The U15 game also marked the debut of 12-year-old Nelson Pierre, who played 39 minutes off the bench. Pierre had already been playing up one age group, scoring four goals in two games for the U14s so his jump to another age group is a promising sign for the young talent who had a staggering 43 goals in 28 appearances for the U12s in his first season in the Development Academy last year.
The U19s made it three wins out of three with a 2-1 win. Jeremy Rafanello scored his second game-winner of the season and fourth overall in the 53rd minute while Tonny Temple opened his U19 scoring account with a penalty kick in the 17th minute. Empire United forward Alphonso Joe cut the lead in half and spoiled the shutout for Kristopher Shakes in the 86th minute.
The U17s stayed unbeaten with a 2-0 win to improve to 2-0-2. Eoin Gawronski recorded his second clean sheet of the season and JD Wagner scored his first goal of the season to add to a 10th minute own goal for the home team.
The U14 and U13 teams both stayed home to play Arlington Soccer Association and both picked up wins.
The U14s got goals from Ian Abbey and Nick Rubio in the first 15 minutes of their game and held on for a 2-1 win. Rubio’s goal was his first of the season while Abbey’s was his second.
Marcello Mazzola had a brace and Beckham Aiman and Jordi Guifarro added goals in a 4-0 win for the U13s. Mazzola leads the team with five goals and Aiman is second with three.
