Union TV broadcasts will be streamed free of charge to in-market fans this season
PHL17, 6abc and Localish will broadcast 27 regular season games; the other seven regular season games will be on national broadcasts
Philadelphia Union fans within the local market will be able to stream broadcasts of games on PHL17 and 6abc for free this season on the team’s website.
This was the big news in the announcement of the team’s broadcast schedule and partners for the 2020 season. Fans only had the option of streaming a couple games last season but will now have the option of over-the-air broadcasts on PHL17, 6abc and Localish and live streams within the market. ESPN+ will still be the place to live stream games for fans out of the market.
“Providing a digital stream option for our in-market fans is a testament to our continued commitment to growing soccer in the Delaware Valley,” Philadelphia Union President Tim McDermott said in a news release. “We are excited to welcome PHL 17 and 6abc back as broadcast partners for our 2020 season. These two media companies are exemplary leaders in the Philadelphia region. Not only do they provide tremendous reach of our broadcasts, they also demonstrate incredible commitment to the community.”
PHL17 will be broadcast the season opener on Saturday and 23 other games throughout the season; two other games will be broadcast locally on 6abc and one game will be on Localish, which is the rebranded name of the network formerly known as Live Well.
Play-by-play legend JP Dellacamera and color commentator Tommy Smyth will be returning for the local broadcasts along with Dave Leno, Marisa Pilla and Union legend Sébastien Le Toux, who will all return as commentators throughout the season on various pre, halftime and post-game shows.
The team has a zip code checker on their website fans can use to see if they are in-market for streaming.
Seven Union games will be on national television broadcasts, including their game at LAFC on March 8, which is one of three games slated for FS1. Two others will be on ESPN and two on UniMas.
