Sergio Santos put an emphatic exclamation point on a textbook high press to open the Philadelphia Union’s scoring account for 2020 on Sunday night.

Santos hit a left-foot curler to beat an outstretched LAFC goalkeeper Kenneth Vemeer and give the Union a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute.

The sequence started when Kacper Przybylko picked Tristan Blackmon’s pocket from behind and passed the ball forward to Brenden Aaronson who squared it to Jamiro Monteiro just outside the D after a couple touches. Monteiro then squared it to Santos who took a little touch to himself space and hit it.

The goal came 119 minutes into the Union’s 2020 season after they were held scoreless in the season opener against FC Dallas last week.
