Philadelphia Union need to beat New England one more time
The Union will face the Revs for the sixth time in 2020
Five times wasn’t enough, after all.
The Philadelphia Union will need to beat the New England Revolution once more on Tuesday night when the two teams meet for a sixth time in 2020 in a Round One playoff game at 8 p.m. (ESPN).
New England advanced out of the play-in round with a 95th minute winner from Gustavo Bou to beat the Montreal Impact on Friday night. Nashville SC won the other play-in match 3-0 over Inter Miami.
Though it didn’t become official until the full time whistle blew in Nashville, Revs head coach Bruce Arena was already looking ahead to facing the Union in his post-game interview, joking around about needing a scouting report on the Union.
“I think when we arrive in Philadelphia they’re gonna give us the Supporters’ Shield cus we earned it for them,” Arena said.
Ten of the Union’s 47 points this season (three wins, one draw) came against the Revs and they also beat them in an MLS is Back Tournament knockout match in Florida. The Union won their two games against the Revs at Subaru Park 2-1 and 2-0 on Decision Day to clinch the Supporters’ Shield.
