Atlanta United sign forward Luiz Araújo from Lille
Araújo was a member of the Mirassol and São Paulo youth setups in his native Brazil, also featuring in the São Paulo side that won the U-20 Copa Libertadores. In 2017, he signed for then-manager Marcelo Bielsa and Lille, recording 4 goals and 2 assists through 28 matches as it won its 4th league title in club history.

FC Cincinnati and GM Gerard Nijkamp mutually agree to part ways
Nijkamp was hired in May of 2019 to be the club’s general manager. His tenure will be noted for record breaking signings, the rapid development of the academy, but also many players that failed to live up to the expectations of the club and it’s fans.

Blackett is a product of the Manchester United FC youth system and played 11 matches in the 2014-15 English Premier League season before moving on to other clubs. 

NYCFC trade Sebastien Ibeagha to LAFC in exchange for $150,000
Ibeagha, 29, joined New York City FC prior to the 2018 season. Then the reigning USL Defender of the Year, the Nigerian-born defender made his first MLS appearances with NYCFC en route to becoming a mainstay depth piece behind regulars Maxime Chanot and Alexander Callens, and even filled in at right back on occasion.

Minnesota United acquires Honduran midfielder Joseph Rosales on 18-month loan
Rosales can play both central midfield and left back, Loons coach Adrian Heath said in a team statement Friday that announced the deal.

Canada won gold in the Olympic women’s soccer tournament on Friday after a 3-2 sudden-death penalty shootout win against Sweden, following a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time.

Mexico beat Japan in men’s bronze medal match
First-half goals from Francisco Cordova and Johan Vasquez put El Tri in control and Alexis Vega added a third after the break before Kaoru Mitoma got a late consolation in a repeat of the 1968 bronze medal match, which Japan won in Mexico City.

Tottenham sign Argentina defender Cristian Romero from Atalanta
The 23-year-old impressed at Atalanta as he helped Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to a third-place finish in Serie A. Romero was named Serie A Defender of the Year at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
