Philadelphia Union announces Davó loan from Corinthians

The long-rumored loan of 21-year-old Brazilian forward Matheus “Davό” Alvarenga de Oliveira is official.

The Philadelphia Union announced Wednesday that they have acquired Davό on loan from Brazilian club Corinthians through the end of the season with a club option to buy.

“We’re excited to welcome Matheus to the Philadelphia Union and add a versatile young attacker to our roster,” said Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. “We have looked for a technically advanced striker like Matheus who can play underneath his partner and link defense to attack. We look forward to getting him quickly integrated into our system.”

Davό has been on loan with Brazilian club Guarani FC in the Série B league where he has scored five goals and added four assists in 44 appearances (41 starts). He recorded his first multi-point game for the club when he scored a goal and recorded an assist on June 2, 2021, in a 5-2 victory over Operário-PR, and contributed with another multi-point game when he scored and added a helper in a 4-1 win over Confianca-SE on July 21, 2021.

Davό will occupy an international spot on the roster, giving the Union nine active international players in nine available slots. They acquired their ninth international spot from Sporting Kansas City for $200,000 in general allocation money back in April. The acquisition also gives the Union 31 total players on the first team with Matej Oravec currently out on loan.

The Major League Soccer incoming transfer window closed on April 5 so today’s announcement means the Union was able to complete the deal prior to the deadline.
