Local teams come up empty in PIAA state finals

There won’t be any soccer state title trophies coming back to Montgomery or Bucks counties this year.

Lower Merion and Springfield Township both fell in boys finals and Pennridge and Upper Perkiomen in girls finals played in Mechanicsburg, Pa. on Friday and Saturday.

Upper Perkiomen took an early lead but were unable to hold on against Moon in the Class 3A girls final on Friday. Moon beat Conestoga last year in the Class 4A final. Springfield Township conceded a goal in double overtime to Hershey in the Class 3A boys final on Friday night.

Pennridge fell 2-1 to Central Dauphin in the Class 3A girls final on Saturday. Lower Merion’s dream run to the final ended in disaster as they fell 6-0 to Seneca Valley in the Class 4A final. It was just the second loss of the season for the Aces, which had a chance to take an early lead denied by a penalty kick save.
