A look at how former Philadelphia Union, academy and local players performed on opening night



By my count there are 16 former Philadelphia Union players on MLS rosters this season. There’s another seven players on MLS rosters from the area and six who were in the Philadelphia Union Academy at some point.

Here’s a look at how these players performed on opening night.

Former Philadelphia Union

Fafa Picault, started for Nashville, played 72 minutes and had an ASSIST

Taylor Washington was an unused sub for Nashville
CJ Sapong did not dress for Nashville
Matt Freese was on the bench for NYCFC
Jamiro Monteiro started and played 82 minutes for San Jose Earthquakes
Sergio Santos started and scored the first GOAL for FC Cincinnati in their 2-1 win over Houston Dynamo

Ray Gaddis came off the bench and played 4 minutes for FC Cincinnati
Alvas Powell played 3 minutes off the bench for FC Cincinnati
Cory Burke played 22 minutes off the bench in his New York Red Bulls debut
Carlos Coronel played 90 minutes for Red Bulls
Joshua Yaro played 2 minutes off the bench for St. Louis City SC
Zac MacMath started for Real Salt Lake vs Vancouver
Chicago Fire (Kacper Przybylko and Fabian Herbers) didn’t play
Colorado Rapids (Keegan Rosenberry) plays Seattle Sounders tonight
LAFC (John McCarthy) had their game against LA Galaxy postponed

Local Players

Daniel Lovitz (Wyndmoor, Pa.) started for Nashville and played 90 minutes
Aiden McFadden (West Chester, Pa.) was an unused sub for Atlanta United
Russell Canouse (Lancaster, Pa.) played 90 minutes and had an ASSIST for DC United in their 3-2 win over Toronto FC

Tyler Miller (Woodbury, N.J.) started and played 90 minutes in goal for DC United
George Campbell (born in Chester, Pa.) didn’t dress for CF Montreal (ankle injury)
Zarek Valentin (Lancaster, Pa.) played 90 minutes for Minnesota United FC
AJ Marcucci (West Chester, Pa.) did not dress for New York Red Bulls

Former Philadelphia Union Academy/Union II Players

Shanyder Borgelin came off the bench and scored the second goal for Inter Miami in their 2-0 win over CF Montreal

CJ dos Santos didn’t dress for Inter Miami
Favian Loyola did not dress for Orlando City
Ben Martino did not dress for Nashville SC
Ben Bender was an unused sub for Charlotte FC
Tomas Romero was an unused sub for Toronto FC
