Reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year Andre Blake is back training and on schedule to make his return to the Philadelphia Union starting lineup on Saturday at home against Sporting Kansas City.

“The hope is that he does play on Saturday,” head coach Jim Curtin said in his weekly presser on Wednesday. “He’s the best goalkeeper that our league has, and we’re stronger with him in the group.”

Curtin said Blake has been “a quick healer in the past” and that “all signs are pointing to a positive return for Andre to the group on the weekend.”

Curtin said the Jamaica international has still had an impact on the squad even when he’s been recovering from a Grade 1 adductor strain sustained in the game against Chicago Fire on March 11.

“He’s been doing things even when he’s not playing to help out,” Curtin said. “And it speaks to the type of player that he is.”
