A former Ocean City Nor’easters and Reading United star has been named Player of the Matchday by Major League Soccer after his two goal and assist performance in a 5-0 win over CF Montréal.

The 23-year-old from Topeka, Kansas, had 18 goals over two seasons in USL League Two, 7 for Reading United in 2019 and 11 for Ocean City Nor’easters in 2021.

Becher became the fastest player in league history to reach four MLS goals, doing so in just his first 87 minutes of game action dating back to his first goal scored in an 8-minute cameo last August. The previous record was held by Columbus’ Juan ‘Cucho’ Hernández, who accomplished the feat in his first 89 MLS minutes in 2022. Becher also joined Octavio Rivero (2015) as the only players in Whitecaps history to score in each of their first three matches.

Becher also has a goal this season in Concacaf Champions League play.

A first-round selection of the Whitecaps in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft, Becher signed a first-team contract with Vancouver in November 2022 after leading Whitecaps FC 2 of MLS Next Pro with eight goals while also dishing out four assists in 22 appearances.
