Alex Smith made two penalty kick saves to lead the Philadelphia Union U15s into the semifinal of the Generation adidas Cup on Thursday after a scoreless draw against Real Madrid.

The Union U15s had their game broadcast live on the MLS Season Pass app for the second straight day and while the game lacked the fireworks of their 4-1 win over Arsenal the day before, the U15s got the job done in a close scoreless draw that gave way to the shootout. Smith was able to make two big stops and Gavin DeHart converted the decisive penalty.

The Union U15s will face Orlando City in the semifinal at noon on Saturday.

Highlights

While the U15’s quarterfinal needed penalties, a late penalty kick from Devon Decorte was the difference in a 1-0 win for the Union U17s over Palmeiras.

The U17s will play LAFC – penalty shootout winners over Flamengo – in a semifinal match on Saturday at 5 p.m.
