Joey Tavernese completed a hat trick cleaning up a rebound on the back post to lead the Harrisburg Heat to their first win of the season, a 9-8 victory over Texas Outlaws on Sunday in Mesquite, Texas.

Tavernese leads the Heat with 12 goals through their first seven games and has added three assists to pace the attack. He’s also even with Utica City’s Kelvin Oliveira for the MASL lead.

Dom Francis also had four goal contributions on Sunday with three goals and an assist. Francis is second on the team with 8 goals and has added a pair of assists.

The Heat improved to 1-5-1 on the season and have shown better than their record suggests after struggling out of the gate a year ago. Last season they didn’t pick up their first win until their 11th game of the season in late January.

The Heat return to action on January 25 and 26 with Dallas Sidekicks and St. Louis Ambush visiting the Farm Show Arena.
