It took going 27 games without a loss to finally get the attention of the national pollsters for Haverford men’s soccer. After a 6-0-1 start the Fords cracked the United Soccer Coaches top 25 this week at No. 25, joining Rowan (No. 4) and Scranton (No. 14).

The Fords host Penn State Brandywine tonight in a rare home night game at Haverford. They’ve been led this season by second-year forward Charles Sharp (7 goals, 2 assists), senior Thomas Vanni (5 goals, 2 assists) and rookie center back Connor Gustafson, a towering threat on offense and defense.

Swarthmore women are also back in the rankings with this week, checking in at No. 21 after a big conference win over Johns Hopkins. Hopkins beat Swarthmore in the conference title game last fall. Celia Kanellakos’s 79th minute goal was the difference in the 1-0 win for The Garnet. Swarthmore visits Bryn Mawr today and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.

Rowan women moved up one spot to 7th in the rankings after a 2-0 win over St. Mary’s and visits No. 8 Messiah tonight in Glassboro. Other area teams in the Division III women’s rankings include TCNJ at No. 14.

West Chester women are holding strong at No. 4 in the Division II rankings with their 5-0-1 record. They visit No. 22 Kutztown in another marquee local match tonight.

Other area college programs in the United Soccer Coaches rankings include Rowan College South Jersey-Gloucester, which is ranked 9th in the NJCAA Division III poll after a 5-0-0 start.

Area teams in the regional rankings include Misericordia (5th), Rutgers-Camden (7th) and Stockton (9th) in the DIII women’s regional IV poll and LVC (No. 6) and DeSales (No. 8) in the DIII men’s Region IV rankings. Rowan’s teams are No. 1 in both Region IV rankings.

Millersville (No. 5) and West Chester (No. 9) are ranked in the Division II Atlantic Region and Millersville women are No. 5 behind Kutztown (No. 3) and West Chester (No. 1) in the Atlantic Region women’s rankings.
