Temple women clinch first playoff berth since 2018
Temple women’s soccer are heading to the postseason for the first time in eight years after earning a berth into the American Conference Soccer Championship following a 3-0 win over Tulsa on Friday night.
Closing out their regular season home schedule under the lights at Temple Sports Complex Friday, the Owls took an early lead through Giovanna Echavarria in the 11th minute and the rookie attacker doubled the lead 11 minutes later. Amaya Hill added another goal at the half hour mark to make it 3-0. Echavarria is second on the team in goals with 5.
Owls goalkeeper Ana Zivkovic made six saves to record the clean sheet, her 8th of the season.
The win was the 11th of the season for Temple, the program’s most since they went 12-7-1 in 2015. The Owls went 7-11-1 the last time they made the postseason in 2018.
Temple closes out the regular season on Tuesday in Charlotte.
The American Conference championship kicks off November 8 with quarterfinals at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Temple is currently tied on points with Rice in fourth place in the standings.
