Cat Gabel made three saves in a penalty shootout to lead Archbishop Wood back to the Philadelphia Catholic League championship after a scoreless draw with top seed Conwell-Egan on Sunday afternoon at Gwynedd Mercy University.

Gable played the hero Sunday after her team came up short in a penalty shootout that decided the PCL title a year ago. That penalty shootout loss to St. Hubert’s ended Wood’s run of four straight titles but Wood went on to win the program’s first PIAA state tournament.

Sunday’s victory avenged a 2-1 loss Wood suffered at Conwell-Egan earlier in the season and was their 7th straight win and clean sheet since the loss on September 28. Wood’s loss to Nazareth Academy a week earlier was their first regular season PCL defeat in three years.

Wood will face Masterman on Wednesday at 3 p.m. for the District XII 2A Championship at Northeast High School. Conwell-Egan, which made the PCL final for the first time, will take on Benjamin Rush in the District XII 3A Championship at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Northeast High School.
