Russell Canouse loaned to German second division

Lancaster native Russell Canouse is moving to 2. Bundesliga club VfL Bochum for the next two seasons.

Canouse made one appearance for TSG Hoffenheim 1899 in the Bundesliga last season, subbing into a game against VfL Wolfsburg in March. His loan to the second division will expire in June 2018.

The 21-year-old midfielder joined the TSG Hoffenheim’s youth setup in 2011 after playing for PA Classics and the New York Red Bulls Academy. He played with former Philadelphia Union midfielder Zach Pfeffer on Hoffenheim’s U19 team in 2013. He was a regular with the U.S. U20 team from 2013 to 2015, scoring a goal in 12 appearances but an injury kept him out of the 2015 U20 World Cup.

VfL Bochum finished fifth in the 2. Bundesliga last season. They begin their 2016-17 campaign on August 6 against FC Union Berlin.
