The first week of the college soccer season is a short one, but it was full of outstanding performances from players with ties to the Philadelphia region

This year during the college soccer season, we’ll be handing out weekly awards to players with ties to the Union Academy and the greater Philadelphia region and also take a look at the players making an impact on a national level.

Regional Player of the Week: Guillermo Delgado, Delaware
The Spanish forward started off his senior campaign on a high note, delivering a two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over Bucknell on Friday and a game-winner to beat Fordham on Sunday. His 40th career goal has him seven shy of the all-time Blue Hens record.

Philadelphia Union Academy Player of the Week: Raheem Taylor-Parkes, Virginia
There wasn’t a lot of playing time to go around for Union Academy alumni in the first weekend, but Taylor-Parkes made the most of his time off the bench, delivering an assist on the game-winner in his 17-minute college debut.

National Player of the Week: Russell Cicerone, Buffalo
Sure, it was against lower division opponent Daemen, but any time a player scores five goals in a game it’s worth paying attention. The senior from Michigan with first-round potential for the 2017 MLS SuperDraft set a new school record with the performance, which also included an assist in a 9-0 win and then set up the game-winning goal to beat Canisius on Sunday.

Goal of the Week: Ema Twumasi, Wake Forest
With apologies to Julian Gressel and Anthony Brown, I’m picking Ema Twumasi’s overhead kick.
