Frank Lampard leaves New York City FC

A look back at the Chelsea legend’s Major League Soccer career.

New York City FC announced that their part-time midfielder Frank Lampard would not be returning in 2017 via twitter yesterday.

Originally signed by NYCFC to a non-binding commitment (whatever that is) in 2014, Lampard arrived whenever he felt like it in 2015. Since then, he’s worked tirelessly to dispel the notion that Major League Soccer was a retirement for aging European players. The 38 year old midfielder’s 15 goals and 4 assists in 2013 minutes over the past two years was a steal at just $6 million a season.

We here at Brotherly Game wish Frank Lampard could have played 100 more seasons at the legendary palace of soccer Yankee Stadium, tying up a Designated Player spot as well as an international player spot in addition to eating up more money than the entire payroll of three teams in MLS: the New England Revolution, FC Dallas, or the Houston Dynamo.

We wish Frank the best of luck with whatever team he winds up not playing for next.
