Keegan Rosenberry won’t get a chance to earn his first cap with the United States National Team this weekend after all.

The second-year defender and first-time camp invitee was one of five players released back to their clubs ahead of Sunday’s friendly against Serbia in San Diego. Taylor Kemp, Brian Rowe, Wil Trapp and Chris Wondolowski were the others while Gyasi Zardes will not travel because of a minor knee contusion.

The match will be the first under head coach Bruce Arena since 2006 and precedes a friendly with Jamaica in Chattanooga, Tennessee on February 3. Arena has 23 players on his final roster, including two from the Union.

Chris Pontius could be in line to earn his first cap, something that has eluded him in previous call-ups. Bedoya enters the match with 55 caps since making his debut in 2010.

Arena’s decision to release Rosenberry could mean a change of travel plans for a potential overseas suitor MLS Transfers reported was planning to watch him in play in Chattanooga.

The Union have been training all week in Chester but are scheduled to head south to Florida on Tuesday.
