Charlie Reymann signs with Bethlehem Steel FC

Defender Charlie Reymann has officially gone from trialist to Steel player with a signing announcement Thursday.

The Worthington, Ohio native spent four seasons at the University of Kentucky, where he made 77 starts in 80 career games. He’s been with the club since training camp opened the beginning of February and has started both preseason games so far.

“I’m really excited that Bethlehem Steel FC have given me this opportunity to realize my dream of becoming a professional soccer player and I can’t wait to hit the field and reassure the club they’ve given the right guy this opportunity,” Reymann said in a news release. “Being a trialist is a unique experience because your confidence can fluctuate and you don’t know if you are making an impact on the coaching staff. It’s an honor that the team has given me this contract.”

The 22-year-old defender led the Wildcats in assists last season with 10 and recorded 21 for his career. He also spent time last summer locally with Reading United.

“I first got to see Charlie play last summer when he was with Reading United and when he didn’t get selected by anyone, we immediately called him and invited him to our preseason,” head coach Brendan Burke said in a news release. “Charlie is a steady influence and is determined to add to our level of training every session, every day.”

Prior to college, Reymann played for Columbus Crew Soccer Academy from ages 10-18 and also served as a junior coach for Columbus Crew SC.

Reymann joins Matthew Real as the second left back on the USL roster, which still doesn’t include a right back – former Temple right back Matt Mahoney and academy defender Nykolas Sessock have played there in preseason.
