Philadelphia Union Academy grad Sean Wilson transferring to Xavier

After making only two appearances over two seasons in Chapel Hill, Philadelphia Union Academy grad Sean Wilson is moving to Big East program Xavier University this fall.

The Bethlehem native made his commitment this week.

One of the Union’s top youth prospects heading into college, Wilson received numerous call-ups to U.S. youth international teams from the U14 to U20 age group. But playing time for the holding midfielder was hard to find on a deep North Carolina squad that made it to the College Cup in 2016.

Xavier should be a good place for Wilson to get his career back on track. The Ohio school hasn’t had a losing season since head coach Andy Fleming arrived in 2010. LIU Brooklyn midfielder Simen Hestnes (6 goals, 9 assists in 2016) is also transferring to the program, according to a report on TopDrawerSoccer.com.

Wilson joins former Union teammates Morgan Hackworth and Chris Gomez as players transferring out of ACC schools. Hackworth has transferred to the University of Akron and Gomez to Lafayette after both struggled to get minutes over the past two seasons at Syracuse.

During his time with the Union, Wilson made 32 appearances over two seasons with the U16 and U18 teams in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy. He played for Players Development Academy prior to joining the Union.
